Patient Amna Muftah EL-Shawish was 46 years old when she was admitted to Puhua International Hospital on 9th February 2011, presenting with gradual and progressive weakness of her left arm over the previous 12+ months. Her condition eventually involved the entire right hand, and gradually spread to all the limbs in the ensuing year.
As her condition continued deteriorating, Amna and her husband began to search effective treatment for her ALS.
Recommended by another patient from Libya – Abdulwahed, who received improvements with stem cells for his ALS at PIH, Amna and her husband decided to come to PIH himself or herself for a trial of stem cell implantation in Beijing, China.

Medical condition before Stem Cell Treatment

Before stem cell treatment for her Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Amna’s presented with muscle atrophy. She had difficulty in using her hands for her usual daily activities, including feeding herself, going to toilet, etc. She had difficulty with her gait, felt weak in her legs, ambulatinging with dragging gait.
She was suffering from a significant swallowing problem. The ALS also affected her speech, leaving it unclear and very low, which made it difficult for others to comprehend her words. Amna usually felt short of breath when she was lying flat on her back, and the quality of her life was becoming very poor.

Stem Cell Treatment

Injections of neural stem cells, self stem cell activation and proliferation therapy, rehabilitation therapy (Physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy), and TCM

Medical condition after Stem Cell Treatment

With stem cell treatments for ALS, Patient Amna’s condition improved gradually.
Within 5 weeks’ of her treatment, Amna was feeling stronger, and her gait was getting better.  Her dragging gait was no longer noted. She was able to go up and downstairs with much more agility than before. She had more strength coming back in her limbs. It was easier and for her to lift up her both upper arms, because she was gaining in strength. It was also easier for her to clench her fist and stretch her fingers. She could soon do the occupational therapy and physical therapy more quickly, and with better agility, strength and flexibility.
Amna’s voice was louder and clearer than what it was at admission. It was soon easier for others to understand her. Her swallowing had also improved. She feels more comfortable when she swallowing, and soon able to take food without fear of choking.
