On April 25th 2011, Miguel was admitted to Puhua International Hospital for stem cell treatment. He was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA).

At the age of 43 (5 years prior to admission), Miguel began suffering from spinocerebellar ataxia. He had increasing difficulty in walking. His condition deteriorated in the next 4 years. He had problems with his balance and his speech. His condition deteriorated. (Miguel’s mother and younger brother also experienced these symptoms.) These symptoms brought much inconvenience to his daily life.

Medical Condition before Stem Cell Treatment for Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA)

Upon arrival, Miguel presented with slurred speech. People could not understand what he was trying to say. There was an apparent increase in the muscle tone of his lower limbs. His movements were very clumsy. He couldn’t walk without assistance. He couldn’t maintain balance with his eyes closed.

His poor condition deeply depressed him.

Treatment for Spinocerebellar Ataxia(SCA)

Stem Cell treatment, treatment to improve both circulation and nutrient to the neural system, combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and rehabilitation trainings.

Medical Condition after Stem Cell Treatment for Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA)

After stem cell treatment, noticeable improvements are experienced by Miguel.

He could soon speak much better, making it easier for him to communicate with other people.  With better balance control, he could again walk independently. During his hospitalization, step-by-step, he finished balance training from level 2 to level 5 (the highest level). After the rehabilitation therapist’s program, he could complete kick-ball-exercise. He can also complete the consecutive ping-pong toss. More flexibility was seen in his alternating movements.

In addition, now, Miguel was once again more positive and confident, and happy with his progress after the SCT.
