HISTORY

Ah Chay Tan, a 77-year-old male from Philippines, was admitted to Puhua International Hospital (PIH) due to “progressive involuntary tremors of limbs for more than twelve years.”

Patient Ah Chay Tan suffered from Parkinson’s Disease since 1998. At the beginning, it presented as slight shaking of his right hand. His shaking gradually became worse. His general movements were affected:  slow gait, worsening tremors, and deteriorating motor skills.

He decided undergo stem cell treatment for Parkinson’s disease at PIH in Beijing to see if it could help the situation.

Medical condition before Stem Cell Treatment (SCT) for Parkinson’s Disease

Before Patient Ah Chay Tan began Stem Cell Treatment (SCT), he could manage his daily life by himself. He could walk independently albeit very slowly, with a flexed posture, mild small shuffling steps, and little arm movement.

He was able to write and eat by himself, as well as go up and down stairs. He could get in and out of bed, dress and undress slowly without too much difficulty. He had resting tremor, which was more severe on his right hand. When he felt nervous, the tremor would be more obvious.

Due to high muscle tone caused by Parkinson’s disease, Patient Ah Chay Tan suffered stiffness in his limbs, as well as his trunk, which left him unable to perform fine movements.

Patient Ah Chay Tan's speech was also impaired, which presented as slow, slurred speech. When examined at admission, masklike face was noted.

Medical condition after Stem Cell Treatment (SCT) for Parkinson’s Disease

Five weeks after his Stem Cell Treatment (SCT) for Parkinson’s disease (PD), Patient Ah Chay Tan’s speech was a little clearer than before. He had more facial expression, and more smiles. After his Stem Cell Treatment (SCT), the stiffness in his limbs and trunk was improved, so that he was more flexible and it was easier for him to perform fine movements, and turn over his body in bed.

Patient Ah Chay Tan felt stronger, and was able to walk faster with more natural arm movements and improved posture. The tremors in both of his hands are a little less than before, and he is able to bring the tremor under his control.
